french 101 at caf?campagne

a regional tour of french food and wine.

Paris-Lyon-Marseille

Each month chef daisley gordon and wine director cyril frechier collaborate to create a prix-fixe menu and wine feature focusing on regions in france. in the month of avril (april) we take a journey on the p-l-m railway line.

To many sun deprived parisian the p-l-m railway line represents an imaginary thread to warm proven?l climates, and a place where one delights in the simple pleasures of life-the enjoyments of the table.

The gastronomical journey begins in paris with freshly shucked belon oysters served with a chilled glass of steely muscadet or crisp blanc de blancs champagne. within a short hour, the flat plains of the beauce roll past the windows soon to be followed by the gentle rolling hills of northern burgundy.

A short stop in dijon is all the excuse needed for a glass of chablis and goug?e to stave off the appetite. next, it?s on to lyon where lunch awaits. the saying goes-in lyon three rivers flow; the rh?e, the saone and beaujolais, and nowadays, one might add c?es du rh?e to the list. dijon is a shrine to all things comestible, charcuterie reigns and wine with food is de rigueur.

The final stretch to marseille via the valley du rh?e ambles through a procession of wine villages and near-by appellations: c?e r?ie, st. joseph, hermitage, ch?eauneuf-du-pape, and gigondas to name a few. the shimmering mediterranean is closer and one?s cheerfulness increases with each passing mile, and for good reason, it?s almost time for dinner!

This month, please join us for a culinary journey from la capitale, through france?s heartland, and on to marseille?s canebi?e. - bon voyage
